I had originally set aside the entire day just for traveling to Athens, Greece, but Lily saw an opportunity to go check out the Moco Museum, another modern art museum, before we headed to the airport, so we worked to squeeze that in.
Things didn’t go perfectly to plan. One of the big issues we had was that we were checking out of the AirBnB and would have our luggage with us. I found a website called Luggage Hero through a Google search, and Lily tried to book a luggage drop so we could go see the museum together.
However, once we got to the luggage drop location, we found the building to be closed. (Annoyingly, we would be charged days later for the privilege of not having our luggage stored. Reminder to self: dispute the charge.)
So on to Plan B: I simply watched the luggage outside the building while Lily went in and took a look herself.
The museum wasn’t huge, and Lily did a round of the museum in less than an hour. Since we still had some time to spare, we stopped by a nearby cafe for brunch.
We hailed a taxi and traveled to London Heathrow. I had thought that we’d need at least three hours time to check in, check in our big suitcase, and go through security, but this must have been lingering anxiety from our experience with Spirit Airlines, as once we got there, the baggage drop wasn’t even open. So we had to wait 15 minutes or so before we could even check in our big bag. Thirty minutes later, we were in the gate area waiting for our flight, which had worryingly not shown up on three departures board with a gate number.
The gate number would eventually be decided, some two hours later and just before we needed to start boarding our flight.
The flight itself was pretty unremarkable, save for a fantastic view of the moon in the setting sun that I tried and failed to capture with my cell phone.
Once we landed and picked up our bags, we grabbed a taxi and drove into downtown Athens where our hotel was. It was after midnight at this point, so we checked ourselves into our room using the instructions the front desk left us and went to sleep.
